The Republic of Azerbaijan, also known as the Land of Fire, is situated at the crossroads of Southwest Asia and Southeastern Europe. Surrounded on three sides by mountains and by the Caspian Sea to the east, Azerbaijan has 9 climatic zones, ranging from humid subtropical climate to semi-arctic.

Azerbaijan has a rich cultural and historic heritage. Many caravan routes, including the Great Silk Way, run through Azerbaijan. National traditions are well preserved, combining elements of history, art, music and dance.  Azerbaijan has many hot mineral springs, thermal sulfur-hydrogen water sources and mud volcanoes that are used for medical purposes. Its salt mines are used for asthma therapy.

Azerbaijan is a unique place where different cultures and civilizations meet. As a member of both Islamic and European organizations, Azerbaijan acts as a bridge between eastern and western civilizations.
