As many of you know, October is International Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In 2017, we marked the occasion by focusing on women’s health and fitness, which is so important to breast cancer prevention. This was one of our members’ favorite events (check out the photos on Flickr), and it is back by popular demand!

At our Coffee Morning at the Conrad Seoul on Oct. 24, we will ask members to dress in exercise wear and take part in 10-minute fitness demonstration classes.

Vendors from the health, fitness and beauty industries will also be present to discuss their products and services, and to contribute prizes to our charity raffle. As they did last year, The Estée Lauder Companies will provide pink ribbons to all SIWA members and friends in attendance in honor of Pink October.

We are excited to confirm three amazing health and fitness demo classes that members and friends can enjoy at the October Coffee Morning! Here is a preview of what you can expect to find at Health and Fitness Day.

Kaylee (Yunkyung) Kim

Kaylee Kim: bodyART

bodyART is an intense holistic, functional and total mind and body workout which combines strength, flexibility, cardio and breathing. It is based on the principles of Yin and Yang and the 5 elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Our demonstration will include cardio and strength training, with breathing.

Kaylee has ten years experience as a yoga instructor, 6 years pilates, and 8 years bodyART instructor at the Yoga and Pilates studio in Korea. She appeared on the TV show “DIET MASTER” and KOREA TODAY (Arirang tv) and  introduced bodyART to everyone. Kaylee is currently teaching Pilates and bodyART at Seoul club, Vantt, Pilates Studio and Gym.

New York Wholistic Care: Piloxing

PILOXING = PILATES + BOXING + DANCING

The Piloxing workout is a fusion of boxing and standing Pilates combined with dance movements. The quick and powerful boxing movements will really burn your fat, while standing Pilates workout can improve your core, balance and gluts. This dynamic fusion exercise to dance music will be a great fun workout for both physical and mental balance.

The demonstration will be led by instructors Sunny Kwak and Olivia Park.

 

Create Wellness: Office Power Pause

Swedish Physiotherapist Ida Lovgren of Create Wellness Center will lead you through the “Office Power Pause”, a 10 minute pause strategy that you can use in your everyday life, which will combine strategies such as stretches and breathing exercises to manage stress and physical loading during your workday. Combined with proper office ergonomics, using these power pauses can help you to stay healthier while sitting long hours, and can also be used in any moment where you might need some extra rejuvenation.

Ida Lovgren was trained as a physiotherapist at the Uppsala University in Sweden and has over 14 years of clinical experience providing rehabilitation services to clients in both Sweden and in Korea at the Create Wellness Center in Itaewon. With additional training in the Activia system of Office Ergonomics and additional seminars, Ida has also been passionate about spreading awareness about healthy living and work habits, giving regular corporate and private workshops in Seoul.

Fitpro: Zumba®

The Zumba® program is a Latin-inspired, dance-fitness class that incorporates Latin and international music and dance movements, creating a dynamic, exciting, exhilarating, and effective fitness program. A Zumba® class—known as a Zumba® Fitness-Party™—combines fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body using an aerobic/fitness approach to achieve a unique blended balance of cardio and muscle-toning benefits. The Zumba® program integrates some of the basic principles of aerobic, interval, and resistance training to maximize caloric output, cardiovascular benefits, and total body toning. The cardio-based dance movements are easy-to-follow steps that include body sculpting, which targets areas such as gluteus, legs, arms, core, abdominals and the most important muscle in the body—the heart. Dancers and non-dancers alike immediately and easily master a Zumba® class because previous dance experience is not necessary. A Zumba® class creates a party-like atmosphere that provides a non-intimidating opportunity for non-dancers, new exercisers, or those who have previously hesitated to participate in group classes.
