The Chung Young Yang Embroidery Museum at Sookmyung Women’s University houses an extensive collection of embroidered and woven textiles representing historical periods and geographic regions from around the world. Our docent will show us the permanent exhibition featuring exquisite examples of East Asian costume and decorative arts. Then we will visit the education facilities, watch a sewing demonstration, and have a hands-on sewing lesson.

Inaugurated in 2004, this museum is an exhibition, educational, and research facility. The museum researches and exhibits embroidered textiles as primary documents of the technological, social, and cultural environments that produced them. Its diverse collection illuminates cross-cultural dialogues in technique and style that have enriched textile arts worldwide. The collection includes religious garments and textiles, military uniforms, screens, as well as ceremonial and everyday clothing, accessories, and household furnishings. The beauty of these pieces must be enjoyed in person.
